Frederic Henry’s Perspective About War in Story by Hemingway

Henry, a gallant soldier, experiences a change of heart during the war because of the negative outcomes that affect his ability to make informed decisions in life. Searching for a distraction takes him through a rollercoaster of emotions where he develops different perspectives influenced by individuals in his immediate environment. Likewise, the conversation between Henry and the priest reveals his position on the war, where he has contrary arguments to those held by the priest. For this reason, Hemingway in A Farewell to Arms highlights the influence of one’s immediate environment on their thought process and how individuals can develop different perspectives to overcome their challenges.
In one of his conversations with Catherine, Henry discovers that it is impossible to end the war because of the different outcomes that hinder him from discovering his potential. I remember one instance I experienced a turn-around situation just like Henry. My friends introduced me to alcohol and it was one of those moments where I thought I was living life at its best. My school performance started dropping and before I could even realize, I was missing my basketball practice. It took the coach’s intervention to provoke my thought process and realize the mess I was getting myself into.
Hemingway in A Farewell to Arms highlights the influence of one’s immediate environment on their thought process and how individuals can develop different perspectives to overcome their challenges. The nature of conversations people have with their peers can challenge them to become better individuals because of their ability to focus on the realization of desired objectives. When I decided to drop my friends, my life regained its meaning and I began to excel in my learning. Just like Henry, a conversation with my coach helped me understand the meaning of life and the approaches people should use to survive different challenges in their surroundings.
