Question
Answer the two scenarios below with 200 words or more each scenario.
1. Assume you are a child whose parents are deeply involved in drug abuse as well as unlawful distribution of drugs. As a young child, your parents forced you to partake of some of the less dangerous drugs, which is a form of conditioning you to ensure you carry a level of guilt that prevents you from turning your parents over to law enforcement. As you mature, you truly see how drug abuse has ruined your parents’ lives and what they endured. You want desperately to move away from their criminal actions and develop a more positive lifestyle that will help you achieve your personal goals in life.
As this person, what can you do to turn your life around? How can you accomplish this? Please share your thoughts.
2. Assume you are returning to your car after shopping in a local mall and a man tries to beg for money. You politely refuse and assure him that you do not carry cash. The man then produces a knife assuring you that he will kill you if you do not produce money, a wallet, or anything of value.
Close your eyes and envision this scenario. As you envision this event, what first comes to your mind: Fight or flight? What is the Fight or Flight Syndrome, and how does it apply to this scenario? Would you give the offender your wallet or purse and run back to the mall for help, or would you attempt another strategy? Discuss your rationale.
