Remember: Your first sentence is NOT your thesis.
Be sure to offer a FULL introduction.
o You will want an “attention-getter”—a way to establish a conversation with your audience, as well as to create credibility.
 Examples: Statistics, facts, anecdotes, pertinent rhetorical questions.
o You will also provide at least one or two sentences of background to illustrate the issue.
o Then, you may provide your thesis and “essay map,” which may be one or more sentences.
